PennHIP and Other Hip Laxity Score List
PennHIP =
"University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program"
Other countries around the world also do a laxity test similar to PennHIP
While OFA has a publicly accessible online database of orthopedic results, PennHIP does not. Even though OFA only publishes results that are allowed by the owner of the dog, PennHIP does not publish any individual results anywhere. They do publish some breed statistics online:
https://betaviewer2.antechimagingservices.com/BetaViewer/ImageData/Public/breed-laxity.html
Because PennHIP does not have a public database of evaluations they have performed, and due to OFA charging a fee to add the PennHIP results to their public database, the need for a public list of hip screening scores evaluated through PennHIP for the Mudi breed is needed.
A list of Mudi breed hip evaluations using the PennHIP (PH) system, and similar laxity grading systems used in other countries, is available below. The owners or breeders of these Mudis have
agreed to have their Mudis PH/laxity score placed below. In the event a score was known and the owner/breeder did not give permission, the name of the Mudi is listed as Name not shared.
If you would like to have your Mudis PennHIP score placed on this list, please send their PennHIP report via FB Messenger, or email to: MudiDirections at gmail dot com
In some
cases, there may also be an OFA/BVA/FCI hip evaluation result which will also be added to the list.
Please see the reference section below the chart for further information on the PennHIP system. In
the near future, I will do a hip health study for the Mudi breed which will be
published on Mudi Directions. This report will include a comparison of the OFA and
PennHIP systems.
Number of
hip checked Mudis with PennHIP : 46 (as of 9/15/2021)
Number of
hip checked Mudis with OFA: 163 (90.2% normal results as of 12/2021)
*Assigned Risk categories with PennHIP are subject to
change as more Mudis are evaluated and scored, as the Risk given represents the minimum,
maximum and median score range, which is subject to change with the increasing number of Mudis
evaluated. Risk scores are: Low, Mild,
Moderate, High - these categories are what is subject to change, NOT the DI.
